Lake Eola is dyed blue to help prevent algae growth. The bluish green die helps prevent sunlight from promoting growth of algae and even some plants that would destroy the natural beauty of Lake Eola. It is harmless to fish and wildlife and used in many ponds and lakes.
What an incredibly beautiful lake and fountain. You may also hear the fountain called the Lake Eola Fountain or Centennial Fountain all three can easily be correct unless you have a purist view. The City of Orlando has been through many changes in the last 100 years and downtown Orlando has evolved into one of the finest downtown areas in Florida.
Just some of the attractions include the Orlando farmers Market which is kind of a big deal. The swan shaped paddle boats which you can rent for $15 per person for a 30 minute self powered tour. The Eola House beside the walkway around the lake, the Walt Disney Amphitheater, Japanese Rock Garden and the choreographed light show in the evenings.
