Cocoa Beach is the easiest beach to get to from Orlando Florida, Orlando International Airport or just about any other part of the city. Downtown Orlando may be a couple of minutes closer to Daytona Beach but that will depend on time of day and traffic conditions.
Cocoa Beach may be the most interesting among the beaches near Orlando as well. The Ron Jon Surf Shop basically greets you upon arrival there. On the north end of Cocoa Beach is the Canaveral National Seashore, Kennedy Space Center and all that is the magnificent Space Coast. Florida's east coast has plenty of sandy beaches and very popular beaches. These are just slightly less trafficked and just about an hour away.
To the South is Orlando Beach which is a relatively undeveloped beach. It is hard to find unspoiled beaches near Orlando, not to mention one named after it. The Indian River Lagoon is a name you will hear mentioned here but it has brownish water and no attractive family friendly beaches. Vero Beach is just to the south and is another popular Central Florida location. You may hear of this area being called Florida's Treasure Coast.
Another gorgeous family friendly beach ( for most of the year) is Daytona Beach. It too has a fishing pier, pristine beaches and is on Florida's Atlantic Coast. The beach amenities also include a water park within walking distance of the pier. Amazing all of this is just over an hour from much of Orlando.
The White sand continues to nearby beaches such as Smyrna Beach and all of the way north to Saint Augustine beach & Ponte Vedra Beach. The Atlantic Ocean certainly has many a famous beach towns all along the Atlantic Coast.
Clearwater Beach, St Pete Beach (St Petersburg Beach) and the many beaches surround them are just better all things considered. Any of the beaches near Orlando are fine for a day trip of relaxation but the best beach vacation and experience is on Florida's Gulf Coast at Clearwater Beach. Sea turtles, deep sea fishing, the best hands down fishing pier, still a barrier island, quaint beach town, walking trails and yes the best of the Florida Beaches.
In closing if you are looking for soft white sand, an optimal fishing destination and a small beach town you can certainly find them close to Orlando International Airport or anywhere in the city.
