Lake Butler Windermere FL  

Lake Butler is located in Orange County Florida southwest of Orlando Florida. Lake Butler is most famous for being the namesake of the Butler Chain of Lakes. However even if it were all by itself, it would be a magnificent freshwater lake.

Lake Butler has an approximate surface area of 1,579 acres. That translates into 2.47 miles of surface area. From its’ north to southernmost point it measures 2.06 miles and from it’s western shore to its’ eastern shore it measures 2.07 miles. Between those measurements lie some of the most beautiful homes and sparkling clear waters in all of central Florida. At it’s deepest point the lake is about 40 feet deep although not many people know that. The lake is spring fed and full of life. The shorelines have lots of natural vegetation and many of the home owners have opted to allow the natural shoreline to remain to preserve their privacy.

It is estimated that Lake Butler contains approximately 7 billion 434 million gallons of water. On that water you will often see a variety of types of boats. There are few boat ramps in this area which are open to the public. Most commonly those visiting the area will use the public ramp on Lake Down and traverse the channel on the north side of Windermere to get into Lake Butler. Or you can use the ramp in RD Keene Park. The ramp in RD Keene Park usually charges a $5 fee to launch a powered boat but canoes etc. are free. The ramp is very close to Lake Butler and worth it. There is plenty of parking there for your vehicle and trailer and I have not heard of any theft there. Normally there is security nearby.

Lake Butler has some pretty expensive real estate on its 8.7 miles of shoreline. On Its’ eastern shore is the town of Windermere Florida. As you work southwestward you pass Isleworth. The homes on Lake Butler in this community will range from 3 million dollars to over 15 million dollars. Some fairly famous people own properties there. But I will not mention them.

Just a little bit further west is Lake Butler Sound. Lake Butler Sound has quite a few lakefront homes. Most of them are relatively hidden and have long docks but some are magnificent even from the lake. One of them we have nicknamed the Taj Mahal. It is massive and has taken years to build. The residents of Lake Butler Sound are all proud to live there and it is one of the few guarded and gated lakefront communities.

Sandy Shores is a small community west of Lake Butler Sound. There are only 8 lakefront lots here and the homes are reasonably priced when they are available. There are also some homes on a canal to their west which have access to the lake via the canal.

Waterstone is one of the newest members to the Lake Butler Lakefront Club. There are 11 lakefront homes on Lake Butler here. The prices here will be comparable to Lake Butler Sound when the dust settles. Most likely 1.5 to 4 million depending on the home available. Waterstone also has lakefront homes on another lake but they are not connected to Lake Butler.

Kelso on Lake Butler is to the north of Waterstone. Kelso is a very nice community of mostly slightly older homes. The community is not gated but, you likely will not get to it unless you know where you are going or accidently find it. That is one of the things I like about it. There are some other subdivisions to its North but only have 1 or 2 homes each in them.

To the north and dominating the northwestern shoreline is Chaine Du Lac. It is a magnificent community with several palatial homes on the shore of Lake Butler. By that I mean they could have helicopter pads without it looking odd. Chaine Du Lac is not a guarded community but it is gated. Most people drive by it and never know it is there. Just the way I would like it if I were a resident.

On the northern shore you have Metcalf Park. This is an unmarked subdivision on the south side of Lake Butler Blvd. There are about a dozen lakefront homes on Lake Butler. It has more on Wauseon Bay but we are discussing Lake Butler. Expect to pay 3 million to 10 million for one of these homes if they become available. They have incredible views of the lake and the appropriate types of homes were built there.

When you get to Windermere you will have Aladar and Windermere Town. Both are unmarked subdivisions and some of the most sought after real estate in central Florida is their nightly view. Not to mention the incredible sunsets over Lake Butler. You will not find cheap property on this lake. You may find some sold out of the public eye but that is rare also.
