Two golf courses come to mind when you think Windermere. Isleworth and Keene's Pointe. Do not be fooled by Google The Windermere Country Club Course is no more. Not that it was ever in the same league as Isleworth or Keene's Pointe. There are more homes for sale on a regular basis in Keene's Pointe. Isleworth is normally going to set you back 1 million Dollars or more just for the home.If you can not find what interests you there are many more local options for golf and homes in golfing communities. Some people love the extra security of coming home to a gated community. Just knowing that fewer cars are on the communities streets around their families and homes is worth a little more. In many cases gated communities have fantastic amenities. Especially in golfing communities. However many of the new planned unit developments have very nice amenities as well. Windermere has some very nice gated communities with a variety of housing. Several townhome communities are gated. Although you do not need to live in a gated community to have a very nice home, Windermere has many gated communities with very nice traditional homes. You may see a great video on gated communities and homes for sale in gated communities here.
More good news. There are plenty of homes within minutes of the Daniel Webster or the Florida Turnpike. I travel all over this area on a daily basis. I never use the toll roads. Infact I do not have a sunpass. I know where to avoid and when I have to.You can get across Windermere fairly quickly if you avoid just a couple of places that slow down during rush hour. Shopping In and Around Windermere Florida
There are a few things most of us eventually need. Things we usually can not order from Amazon and have delivered to our homes yet. Groceries is one of those things. Luckily there are several locations around Windermere that make getting fresh groceries very easy and quick.
CornerStone Publix is in Northwestern Windermere. Located at the intersection of Winter Garden Vineland Rd and Ficquette. This is near my home and I go there all of the time. There are normally banks and other conveniences around Publix stores in Windermere. So that helps me combine trips.
Groceries and Convenience
Another Publix is at Lakeside Village in Southwest Windermere located across from Lake Burden on Winter Garden Vineland Rd. This Publix has much more at it's Location. Including one of those rare gas stations in Windermere Florida. If I lived closer I would definitely use this location more. My only complaint is the gas station could be a little easier to get in and out of.
The Grove in Eastern Windermere is on Conroy Rd and South Apopka Vineland Rd. The Grove has its' own Publix and it is the winner for having the most to offer. The Grove is one of my favorite places for several reasons. It has some nice restaurants, an LA Fitness and a really nice Publix. In this same area you have a Walmart Fresh Market and a whole lot more.
Not to be outdone Northeastern Windermere Has the Plantation Grove Publix and shopping area. Located on the intersection of Maguire rd and Roberson Rd it is technically in Ocoee Fl. However it is only across the street from Belmere and That puts it near the Reserve at Belmere and Whitney Isles. Plantation Grove has a lot of stores, restaurants, a gas station and at least one banks.
Windermere is primarily famous for the many million dollar homes in the area. Originally golf was not an attraction. It was the orange and logging industry combined with the local railroad that really got the area going. Clark Gable and many other famous celebrities flocked here in the early 1900's for the freshwater fishing and the lifestyle the area provided.
Those times have passed and the area has evolved into the 21st century. Windermere retains some of it's historical charm but make no mistake those old homes and streets are a thin veneer covering that is conveniently retained. Windermere now embraces the best golf courses in Florida and when you consider the golf courses within a 30 minute drive you could argue having the best golf in America right here. Some club members out at Isleworth would argue it anyways.
Another integral part of the economy here is obviously Universal and Disney and what they bring. Which is of course jobs and tourist. We as local residents enjoy that because the parks are here our family comes to visit us more. So in my humble opinion it is Golf and The Parks that keep this area modernizing and affluent.
In affluent area you have great shopping and dining. The best dining in Windermere is probably in the golfing communities. Namely Isleworth and keene's Pointe. Great dining outside will in my opinion take you to Restaurant Row in Dr Phillips. Keep in mind I said dining not dinner. Restaurant Row is located on West Sand Lake Rd between South Apopka Vineland Rd and Interstate 4.
Sooner or later whether it be to buy school clothes, clothes just because, to hang out or whatever reason we end up going to a Mall. Florida is home to several malls that are very popular and all located near Windermere Florida. I am going to cover just a little bit about each mall and link to more information and a video on a couple of them.
Local Shopping Malls
The Orlando Premium Outlets Mall is a very popular destination and located less than 30 minutes from most of Windermere Florida. It is an outdoor mall but hey, this is Florida and we are known as the Sunshine State. Just avoid the rainy late summer days and go live it up. It is bigger than it looks and it is popular for a reason. This video is about 4 minutes long and I chose it because it was the best available.
Next up on my list would be the Florida Mall. The Florida Mall is the most famous and most googled shopping mall in all of Orlando or central Florida. It is not as big as the Mall of America in Minnesota. However we do not need to hide our amusement parks inside of our malls. The Florida mall has a mixture of high end stores and more practical ones as well. There are some nice restaurants there and it has a nice food court for just stopping to grab a bite to eat. You can get to the Florida mall in 30 minutes from the West side of Windermere. I know because I live in Western Windermere. I have driven it many times. The Video is of the mall when it had just opened. The Mall opens for people to walk indoors. So I went in and shot a video so you could clearly see all of the stores and art. Security was there and let me do whatever I wanted.
The Mall at Millenia. The smallest of the malls on the recommend list but definitely the most upscale shopping mall in the area. No real outlets or gimmicks just a nice classy mall filled with stores many people can not afford. When you read articles about Orlando or its' tourism industry you will occasionally hear about this mall. I went there to film this video (which is short) and thought it was just a mall. But I do not hang out at malls. My Daughter in laws really like it though.
