Lake Down has a surface area of 886 acres and an average mean depth of approximately 20 feet. The Lake holds just under 6 Billion Gallons of water. At its widest points it is 1.5 miles from north to south and 1.55 miles from east to west. Lake Down has over 6.8 miles of shoreline. Little Lake Down is a much smaller lake on Lake Down’s northwestern corner. It is connected via canal and has less than 25 acres of surface area. That is still a large area but not when compared to the main three lakes encompassing Windermere. Little Lake Down has approximately .75 miles of shoreline.

Lake Down is connected to Wauseon Bay via channel that passes under Maguire Road. Maguire Road actually becomes Main Street in Windermere Florida on the south side of the canal. The canal will allow most boats up to approximately 20 feet in length to pass through. Most boats that would normally be trailered to a launch on Lake Down should be able to make it. There are several boat launches on Lake Down and one is a public launch. The public launch is on Conroy Windermere Road but you can not park there. You must park your boat trailer somewhere else which may be challenging.

Lake Down has an assortment of lakefront homes ranging from palatial to just really nice. The Northern part of the lake and Windermere have homes which have been around for quite some time, and some new homes which have replaced older ones. The Larger more expensive homes are on the south side of Lake Down in either Windermere Reserve or Sunset Bay. Neither subdivision is gated but the traffic is low. If you are looking to get the best lake for your dollar, keep an eye out for homes that are Lakefront on Lake Down.
